The Hyundai Palisade vs. The Honda Pilot

The Hyundai Palisade and the Honda Pilot: Which Should You Pick?

Shopping for a new SUV for the family? The Hyundai Palisade offers seating for up to eight people, and it comes with plenty of comfort, convenience and safety features. If you're doing your due diligence shopping around North East, you might be wondering why you should look at the Palisade over something like the Honda Pilot. That's why we at Dave Hallman Hyundai have compiled some of the noteworthy differences so you can see for yourself which will be better for you.

Performance

While both SUVs have six-cylinder engines, the Hyundai Palisade manages to do more with its power than the Honda Pilot. When properly equipped, both can tow up to 5,000 pounds, but while the Palisade can achieve this on either its front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive powertrains, the Pilot will need to be all-wheel drive. With just front-wheel drive, the Pilot can only manage to tow 3,500 pounds.

Safety

When you're shopping for an SUV, especially one you'll be fitting your whole family in, you want to make sure you're getting the safest possible drive around Edinboro. Both of these models have plenty of driver-assist technology to help keep you safe, but the Honda Lane Keeping Assist System can be overzealous and jerky, and the same can be said for the Adaptive Cruise Control.

You should also know that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2021 Hyundai Palisade with their Top Safety Pick+ award, which is reserved for only the safest models of the year. The Honda Pilot, on the other hand, has received some awards in the past, but the 2021 Pilot did not pass enough of the crashworthiness evaluations to make it into the list.

Technology

There's a feature that will soon be as common as the backup camera is the heads-up display. This allows you to see information like your speed, the local speed limit and directions around Fairview right on your windshield. The Hyundai Palisade comes equipped with this on both the Limited and Calligraphy trims. The Honda Pilot, on the other hand, still lacks this feature entirely, even on its top trims.

Infotainment

Both the Palisade and the Pilot have two infotainment screens available, with the larger of the two available on all but the base trim. The Hyundai Palisade has an eight-inch color touchscreen on the Palisade SE, while the Honda Pilot has a small, five-inch LCD screen on its base trim, and its larger screen is also an eight-inch touchscreen. The Palisade's larger screen brings it to 10.25 inches and includes onboard navigation and traffic flow.

That's not the only advantage of the Hyundai Palisade infotainment system. While the Pilot lacks Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration on its base trim, the Palisade not only has this across the board, but also allows you to use it wirelessly on every trim. That isn't even an available feature on the Honda Pilot.

Reliability

With any car, but especially an investment like these larger SUVs, you want to know you can trust them to keep going for a long time to come. Since these cars are still fresh on the market, we can't know exactly how reliable they are, but the experts at J.D. Power predict that the Pilot has a reliability rating of two out of five. For context, they don't rate them any lower. However, the Hyundai Palisade has an above-average 3.5 out of 5.

You'll also want to keep in mind that a good warranty can help offset poor reliability, since you'll easily be able to get your SUV fixed if something goes wrong. Unfortunately, the Pilot comes with an average limited vehicle warranty of three years or 36,000 miles and a powertrain limited warranty of five years or 60,000 miles.

With the Palisade, you'll have a five-year or 60,000-mile limited vehicle warranty and a ten-year or 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty. You'll also get some other benefits like seven years of anti-perforation protection and five years of 24/7 roadside assistance around McKean and beyond.
